The Dead South ist eine kanadische Bluegrass-/Folk-Band aus Regina, Provinz Saskatchewan.
Bandgeschichte
Die Band wurde von Colton Crawford und Nathaniel „Nate“ Hilts gegründet, nachdem sie 2012 beim Studium an der University of Regina aufeinander trafen.[3]
Am 29. Juni 2013 veröffentlichte die Band die EP "The Ocean Went Mad and We Were to Blame" in Eigenregie. Diese wurde im SoulSound Studio in Regina aufgenommen und von Steve Berson bei Total Sonic Media in Brooklyn, New York City gemastert.[4] 2013 traten sie auf dem Juno Fest und Grey Cup Festival auf.[3] Am 26. April 2014 folgte das Debütalbum "Good Company". Es wurde ebenso im SoulSound Studio aufgenommen und von Steve Berson gemastert. Produzent war erneut Orion Paradis im SoulSound Studio.[4] 2014 sind sie unter anderem beim Ness Creek Music Festival und bei der Canadian Music Week aufgetreten. Die Band wurde ausgewählt, um Saskatchewan beim jährlichen Musikwettbewerb "Searchlight" von CBC Music zu vertreten. Anschließend wurden ihre Songs öfters auf CBC Radio 2 und anderen Radiostationen der Provinz gespielt.[3]
Im April 2015 spielten sie beim Borealis Music Festival in der Mann Art Gallery.[3] Am 31. Mai 2015 spielten sie mit der 2011 gegründeten Kölner Band JJ & The Acoustic Machine ein Konzert.[5] Am 1. August 2015 trat The Dead South in der Late-Night-Show "Inas Nacht" des NDR im Schellfischposten in Hamburg auf. 2016 folgte das Album "Illusion & Doubt". Am 11. Oktober 2019 folgte das Album "Sugar & Joy" über Six Shooter Records in Kanada und DevilDuck Records in Deutschland.[6] Am 29. Januar 2021 erschien das Live-Doppelalbum "Served Live". Gut drei Jahre später folgte am 9. Februar 2024 das Album "Chains & Stakes".
