Das Debütalbum "Living In The 70's" von Skyhooks aus dem Jahr 1974 wurde bald mit über 200.000 verkauften Alben ein Erfolg für Mushroom Records.[1] Mitte der 1970er Jahre war Mushroom Records Australiens führendes Independent-Musiklabel. Später konnten sie mit Kylie Minogue einen Vertrag abschliessen. Mushroom gründete Tochterunternehmen wie Liberation Records und White Label Records und eröffnete Büros in London (geführt von Gary Ashley) und Auckland.
