Norman Westberg ist ein US-amerikanischer Gitarrist aus New York City.

Leben

Im Herbst 1980 zog Westberg von Detroit nach New York City.[1] Westberg studierte an der Lawrence Technological University.

Westberg spielte bereits bei Bands wie Swans, Motherhead Bug, Sulfur, The Heroine Sheiks und Sugartime mit. Weiterhin spielte er als Gastmusiker bei vielen Künstlern und Bands wie Swans-Mitglied Jarboe, Wiseblood, der US-amerikanischen Metal-Band Crisis, dem Swans-Nebenprojekt The Body Lovers/The Body Haters, Foetus In Excelsis Corruptus Deluxe/Foetus Corruptus, The Book of Knots und Lydia Lunch mit. Er brachte mehrere Soloalben heraus, von denen einige auf der E-Commerce-Plattform Etsy[2], auf der Schweizer Plattform Hallow Ground oder auf Labeln wie dem australischen Label Room40 erhältlich sind.

Seit 1983 spielt Westberg regelmäßig bei der 1982 gegründeten Band Swans mit[3] und war an den meisten Alben als Gitarrist beteiligt. Das Album "Filth" (1983) war das erste Album der Band und der Einstieg von Westberg bei der Band Swans.[4] Nach der "Burning World Tour" pausierte Westberg bei Swans und kam erst für das Album "Great Annihilator" aus dem Jahr 1994 zurück.[1] So war er an den Swans-Alben "Omniscience" (1992) und "Love Of Life" (1992) nicht beteiligt. Laut der Band war unter anderem Westberg nie dauerhaftes Mitglied bei Swans.[5] Bei der Wiedervereinigung von Swans 2010 war Westberg wieder mit dabei.[6]

Im Jahr 1991 gründete Westberg die Band Sugartime mit dem Schlagzeuger Richard Hutchins, dem Bassisten Jason Asnes und dem Gitarristen und Sänger Robert Chamberlin. Nach zwei 7"-Singles ("Girlcrash" im Jahr 1991 und "Awestruck" im Jahr 1992) löste sich die Band 1993[1] auf.[7] 1999 half Westberg bei der Gründung von The Heroine Sheiks mit, die er mit Shannon Selberg, George Porfiris und John Fell gründete. Die Band veröffentlichte 2000 und 2002 insgesamt zwei Musikalben.[1]

Von 2001 bis 2008 arbeitete Westberg bei dem ehemaligen Kreditinstitut Bear Stearns. Bear Stearns wurde am 30. Mai 2008 im Zuge der US-Bankenkrise 2008 von JPMorgan Chase übernommen. Seit Januar 2010 arbeitet Westberg als Schlagzeugtechnicker bei Main Drag Music in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City.[8]
