Melbourne [ˈmɛɫbən] ist die Hauptstadt des Bundesstaates Victoria im Südosten Australiens. Nach Sydney ist Melbourne die zweitgrößte Stadt Australiens. Die Stadt um den Yarra River wurde am 30. August 1835 gegründet und 1837 nach dem damaligen britischen Premierminister Lord Melbourne (1779–1848) benannt.[1] Sie ist Sitz sowohl des katholischen als auch des anglikanischen Erzbischofs.
