The Dream Calls for Blood ist das siebte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Thrash-Metal-Band Death Angel. Es erschien am 11. Oktober 2013 über Nuclear Blast.
Entstehung
Die Band schrieb einen Großteil der Songs auf der Tour für das Vorgängeralbum Relentless Retribution.[4] Das Album wurde in Sanford, Florida, mit Produzent Jason Suecof eingespielt, der auch ein Gitarrensolo bei Empty beisteuerte. Gitarrist Robert Cavestany bezog den Albumtitel auf die Band selbst, deren Motto er sei, aber auch darüber hinausginge: "The title is basically our motto. It's what we're talking about, you know. In our point of view the dream being our band and keeping the band going and making music for your life. The blood is all the sacrifice and all hard work that goes into it and that's the metaphor for that. It's not only meant for music. It's also meant for other people to relate in their own life and goals that they're trying to achieve and the sacrifices that it takes to achieve these goals..."[5] Das Cover wurde von Brent Elliot White gestaltet, der bereits für Bands wie Job for a Cowboy, Carnifex oder Whitechapel arbeitete.
Rezeption
Das Album erreichte Platz 72 der US-amerikanischen sowie Platz 59 der der deutschen Charts.[6] Das Album wurde recht positiv bewertet. Der Metal Hammer gab ihm 5 von 7 Punkten. Thomas Strater schrieb, zwar könne kein sofort ins Ohr gehender Hit ausgemacht werden, die Band habe sich aber "durchaus erfolgreich diese jugendliche Wut bewahrt, die man braucht, um wilden, aber auch melodischen Thrash Metal spielen zu können."[7] Auch Thomas Kupfer vom Rock Hard, der das Album als eine "Rückbesinnung auf die Hochphase des Bay-Area-Thrash" beaschrieb, bemängelte einige Stücke, die "nicht so recht zünden" wollten, doch sei dies "Jammern auf hohem Niveau": "99 Prozent der übrigen Thrash-Metal-Bands wären über ähnliche Luxusprobleme trotzdem froh." Er vergab 8 von 10 Punkten.[4]
