I Am the Night ist das dritte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Metal-Band Pantera. Es erschien 1985 ausschließlich auf MC und LP auf dem Eigenlabel Metal Magic Records und war die dritte und letzte Eigenproduktion der Band.
Hintergrund
I Am the Night war das letzte Album mit Sänger Terry Glaze. Es wurde wiederum vom Country-Musiker und -Produzent Jerry Abbott produziert, dem Vater der Abbott-Brüder Diamond Darrell (Dimebag Darrell) und Vinnie Paul. Auf dem Album kamen etwas schnellere und metalorientiertere Einflüsse der Band zum Vorschein, etwa bei Onward We Rock oder bei Down Below, das für das folgende Album Power Metal erneut aufgenommen wurde. Vergleiche mit Judas Priest oder Ratt wurden gezogen.[1] Die Gitarrensoli von Dimebag Darrell nahmen seinen späteren Stil ein wenig vorweg. Außerdem drehte die Band ihr zweites Musikvideo, für das Stück Hot and Heavy.
Rezeption
AllMusic vergab für das Album 2,5 von 5 Sternen. Eduardo Rivadavia schrieb, Dimebag Darrells Gitarrenspiel, seine "jaw-dropping riffs and solos", machten den Gesang von Terry Lee Glaze etwas erträglicher.[1]
