Android One ist ein Referenzdesign von Google Inc. für niedrigpreisige Smartphones auf Basis des Betriebssystems Android. Die Smartphones bekommen dabei zeitnahe Updates für Android von Google, ohne dass der Gerätehersteller dabei aktiv werden müsste. Gerätehersteller können eigene Apps installieren, umfangreiche Änderungen an Android durch den Gerätehersteller sind jedoch nicht möglich.[1]

Geschichte

Android One wurde im Juni 2014 von Google Inc. auf der Entwicklermesse Google I/O in San Francisco angekündigt. Das Referenzsystem ist ein Dual-SIM-Smartphone mit 4,5-Zoll-Display, SD-Slot und UKW-Radio. Die ersten drei Geräte mit Android One wurden im September 2014[2] in Indien verfügbar.[1] Ende 2014 kamen Android-One-Geräte offiziell auch in Nepal, Bangladesh und Sri Lanka auf den Markt. Damals gab es erst die drei Smartphones Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V und Spice Dream Uno von drei verschiedenen Unternehmen.[3]

Im August 2015 kam mit dem Infinix Hot 2 das erste Android One Smartphone in Nigeria auf den Markt.[4] Mit dem Aquaris A4.5 des spanischen Unternehmens BQ wurde im November 2015[5] das erste Gerät im Android-One-Design in Spanien und Portugal[6] und damit in Europa verfügbar. Der chinesische Hersteller Jiayu kündigte zu der Zeit ein Android-Modell seiner F-Serie mit 4"-Display, 512 MB RAM, Spreadtrum SC7731G-Chip mit vier Cortex-A7-Kernen mit maximal 1,3 GHz, Telefonie, 2G, 3G und zwei Kameras für umgerechnet 30 Dollar an.[2]

Im Jahr 2016 kam in Japan das Sharp 507SH mit Android One über den Carrier Y!Mobile auf den Markt.[7] 2017 folgte von Sharp das Sharp X1 Android One Smartphone.[8] Mit dem Moto X4 von Motorola kam im Oktober 2017[9] das erste Smartphone mit Android One für Googles Mobilfunk Project Fi auf den Markt.[10] Das HTC U11 life war Ende 2017[11] das erste deutschlandweit verfügbare Android-One-Smartphone.[12]
