Amanda Shires (* 5. März 1982 in Lubbock, Texas[1]) ist eine US-amerikanische Singer-Songwriterin und Geigerin.
Leben
Amanda Shires wurde am 5. März 1982 in Lubbock im US-Bundesstaat Texas geboren. Sie ist seit dem 23. Februar 2013[2] mit dem Singer-Songwriter und Gitarristen Jason Isbell (* 1. Februar 1979 in Green Hill, Alabama) verheiratet.[3] Isbell ist vierfacher Grammy-Preisträger und wurde weitere vier Mal für einen Grammy nominiert.[4] 2015 bekamen sie ihr erstes Kind und wurden Eltern einer Tochter.[5]
Etwa im Alter von 10 Jahren begann Amanda Shires damit, Geige zu spielen. Als Teenagerin trat sie mit The Texas Playboys auf, die früher das Begleitensemble von Bob Wills (1905–1975) waren. 2005 veröffentlichte Shires ihr Solodebütalbum "Being Brave". Nach einen Umzug nach Nashville folgten die Alben "Sew Your Heart With Wires" (2008, mit Rod Picott) und "West Cross Timbers" (2009). 2010 spielte sie eine Musikerin in dem Film "Country Strong" der Regisseurin Shana Feste. 2011 folgte das Album "Carrying Lightning". 2013 folgte ihr fünftes Soloalbum "Down Fell The Doves". 2016 konnte sie sich mit dem Album "My Piece Of Land" erstmals in den Billboard-Charts platzieren.[1] 2017 wurde Shires als Emerging Artist of the Year der Americana Music Association (AMA) gewählt.[6] 2018 waren u. a. Shires, Isbell und Brandi Carlile an dem Album "The Tree of Forgiveness" von John Prine beteiligt.[7] Ebenfalls 2018 veröffentlichte Shires ihr nächstes Soloalbum "To The Sunset", welches von Dave Cobb produziert wurde.[1] 2019 gründete Shires mit Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris und Natalie Hemby die Supergroup The Highwomen. Im selben Jahr veröffentlichte The Highwomen ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum.
Neben ihrer Solokarriere und The Highwomen ist sie auch in Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit und der 1999 gegründeten Band Thrift Store Cowboys aktiv.[8]
